01

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work correctly, to remember your preferences, and to provide anonymised usage statistics to site owners.

Cookies can be “session cookies” (deleted when you close your browser) or “persistent cookies” (stored until they expire or you delete them). They can also be “first-party” (set by us) or “third-party” (set by external services embedded on our pages).

We aim to use as few cookies as possible, and only where they are genuinely necessary for the Service to function. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

02

Cookies we use

We set the following first-party cookies. All are strictly necessary for the Service to work — you cannot opt out of these without losing the ability to stay logged in or use the platform.

CookieTypePurposeDuration
sb-*Strictly necessarySupabase authentication session. Keeps you signed in to your Freelancer account.Session / 7 days
portalkit-sessionStrictly necessaryShared session cookie used for single sign-on across PortalKit subdomains (e.g. between the marketing site and the dashboard). Set on .portalkit.app.Session
pk-prefsFunctionalStores non-sensitive UI preferences such as colour theme or sidebar state so they persist between visits.1 year
03

Third-party cookies

We use one third-party service that may set its own cookies during a specific interaction:

Paddle (checkout only)

When you open the Paddle checkout overlay to subscribe or purchase a storage add-on, Paddle may set session cookies on its own domain to manage your checkout session and fraud prevention. These cookies are set and controlled by Paddle, not by PortalKit, and are governed by Paddle’s Privacy Policy.

Paddle checkout cookies are only active during the checkout flow and are not set on regular marketing or dashboard pages.

We do not embed any other third-party scripts that set persistent tracking cookies on your device.

04

Analytics without cookies

For website analytics, we use Plausible Analytics — a privacy-first analytics service that:

  • Sets no cookies of any kind
  • Uses no browser local storage or session storage
  • Does not fingerprint your device or browser
  • Does not track you across different websites
  • Does not collect any personally identifiable information
  • Reports only aggregated traffic statistics (page views, referrers, country)

Because Plausible is entirely cookieless and collects no personal data, it does not require a cookie consent banner under GDPR, UK GDPR, or the EU ePrivacy Directive. There is nothing to opt out of.

05

What we don't use

We do not use any of the following:

  • Advertising or retargeting cookies (Google Ads, Facebook Pixel, etc.)
  • Cross-site behavioural tracking
  • Third-party analytics that track individuals (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
  • A/B testing tools that use persistent cookies
  • Social media tracking pixels
  • Any tool that builds a personal profile of visitors for commercial purposes

Our goal is to run the leanest, most privacy-respecting cookie footprint possible.

06

Managing your cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Below are links to instructions for the most common browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Apple Safari
  • Microsoft Edge

Please note: deleting or blocking the strictly necessary cookies listed in Section 2 will prevent you from staying signed in to PortalKit. Blocking functional cookies means your UI preferences will not be saved between sessions.

Because we use no advertising or tracking cookies, there is no opt-out mechanism needed beyond your browser settings.
